Scanning & capture

How Scanix captures pages from any connected scanner, and the three ways to start a scan.

Capture is how Scanix pulls pages straight off a connected scanner and into the Viewer, ready for OCR, field capture, and export. Connect a scanner, press Scan, and your pages stream in — no driver dialogs to wrangle.

Scanix detects each connected scanner for you and picks the right way to talk to it automatically. There's no TWAIN-versus-WIA switch to flip: the app probes both, chooses per scan, and just shows you the device by name.

Scanning is Windows-only

Direct scanner capture runs on Windows. On other platforms you can still bring documents in by importing files and folders — every capture and field-extraction feature works the same on imported pages.

Three ways to start a scan

Pick whichever fits the moment — they all land in the same Viewer.

  • The Scan button on Home — the fastest path. Press Scan on the Home screen to start a free-form scan; Scanix opens the Scan options dialog so you can confirm the device and set resolution, color, paper source, and duplex before it runs.
  • The Scanner screen — open Scanner for a dedicated capture workspace. The USB Scanner panel lists every detected device; press Detect Scanners to refresh, or Run Diagnostics if a scanner isn't showing up. Press Scan to open the same Scan options dialog.
  • One click from a template — click a template card on Home and choose Scan from Scanner. This skips the options dialog entirely and captures using the settings saved on the template, so every batch scans the same way.

The Scan button stays disabled until a scanner is detected. If nothing is connected, the indicator reads No scanner detected — connect a USB scanner and Scanix picks it up.

Where to go next

Got the documents already on disk? Bring them in from Importing instead — no scanner required.
