Updates, privacy & data
Software updates and channels, telemetry consent, diagnostic logs, and clearing local data.
This page is the reference for the four Settings tabs that control how Scanix Desktop updates itself, what it shares, how much it logs, and how you wipe local data: Software updates, Privacy, Diagnostic logs, and Data & Storage. Every option and its values are listed below. For the full tour of the Settings screen, see the Settings overview.
Software updates
Open Settings, then choose Software updates in the left nav. This tab checks for and installs app updates, picks a release channel, and controls auto-check behavior.
| Control | Type | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current version card | Info | — | Shows the installed version and last-checked status (for example, You are up to date). |
| Update available card | Info + action | Shown only when an update exists | Lists the new version and notes with a Download and install action; the app relaunches after the update is applied. |
| Maintenance lapsed card | Info | Shown only when applicable | An informational notice for perpetual licenses past their maintenance window. It never blocks the app. |
| Automatically check for updates | Checkbox | On | Periodically checks for new versions in the background. |
| Always download updates | Checkbox | Off | Downloads updates automatically as soon as they are available. |
| Update channel | Dropdown | Stable | Choose Stable (recommended) or Beta (opt-in pre-releases). |
| Check for updates | Button | — | Runs a check now. |
Update channels
The recommended channel for production work. You receive tested, general-availability releases.
Opt-in pre-releases for trying new features early. Changing the channel shows a Restart required badge, and the new channel takes effect the next time you launch Scanix.
Updates need an activated license
Checking for updates requires an activated license. If Scanix is not activated, the check returns Activate your license in Settings → License before checking for updates. See Licensing issues.
To update:
Open the tab
In Settings, select Software updates.
Check for an update
Click Check for updates. The Current version card reports whether you are up to date.
Download and install
If an Update available card appears, click Download and install. Scanix relaunches once the update is applied.
Set your preferences
Optionally choose an Update channel and set the auto-check behavior.
Good to know
The Automatically check for updates and Always download updates checkboxes toggle in the current build, but whether their state persists between launches has not been confirmed. Set them as you wish; if a choice does not stick, set it again after launch.
Privacy
Open Settings, then choose Privacy. This tab controls one thing: anonymous usage telemetry. The card is titled Anonymous usage telemetry.
Telemetry is a single choice between three buttons. It is off by default — nothing is sent until you opt in. Your choice saves instantly and can be changed at any time.
| Button | Effect |
|---|---|
| Opt in — share usage data | Sends anonymous usage counters and event types. |
| Opt out — no telemetry | Sends nothing. |
| Decide later | Leaves telemetry off (the default state) until you choose. |
What is and isn't sent
| Sent | Not sent |
|---|---|
| Event types (for example, OCR completed) | Document content |
| Page counts | File names |
| Durations | Any customer-supplied text |
The tab states this plainly: No document content, file names, or customer-supplied text is ever sent. For the full data-handling picture, see Privacy & your data.
Diagnostic logs
Open Settings, then choose Diagnostic logs. This tab caps the size and retention of the app's diagnostic recordings so a forgotten recording can't fill your disk.
A blue Heads up note explains the timing: changes to Auto-stop after, Max entries, and Max size on disk apply to the next recording, while the retention setting applies immediately.
| Control | Type | Values | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto-stop after | Slider | 5 min · 15 min · 30 min · 1 h · 4 h · 24 h | 1 h |
| Max entries | Slider | 10k · 50k · 100k · 250k · 500k · 1M lines | 100k |
| Max size on disk | Slider | 10 · 50 · 100 · 250 · 500 MB · 1 GB · 2 GB | 100 MB |
| Keep recorded entries for | Dropdown | 1 day · 7 days (default) · 14 days (recommended) · 30 days · 60 days · 90 days (max) | 7 days |
Set the caps and retention, then click the bottom Apply button to stage and save them.
Caps apply to the next recording
A recording already in progress keeps the caps it started with — your new caps apply the next time recording starts. Retention is re-read on every cleanup, so it is always current.
Data & Storage
Open Settings, then choose Data & Storage. This tab is a Danger Zone with a single action: permanently clearing all local Scanix data.
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Clear all data | Button (red) | Opens the Clear all data? confirmation modal. |
| Clear everything | Button (in the modal) | Stays disabled until you type DELETE; runs the wipe. |
| Cancel | Button (in the modal) | Aborts without clearing anything. |
Clearing data is irreversible
Clear all data permanently deletes every document, batch, and processing job from the local database and removes the imported files on disk — not just database rows. This cannot be undone.
Open the Danger Zone
In Settings, select Data & Storage.
Start the wipe
Click Clear all data to open the Clear all data? modal.
Confirm by typing DELETE
Type DELETE to enable the final button, then click Clear everything. A green banner reports how many documents, batches, and jobs were cleared.
Modals never close on an outside click
The Clear all data? confirmation closes only with Cancel or by completing the wipe. Clicking outside the dialog will not dismiss it.
